Energy Youth Basketball Character Initiative
Former UCLA basketball coach John Wooden said
“Sport does not build character, it reveals it”.
Character has been defined as “who you are when no one is looking”.
Energy Youth Basketball will be working on your inside (character) as well as your outside (technique/tactics). Together these three will be a powerful tool to get your son or daughter to be the best they can be as people and as athletes.
Performance values are things like work ethic, team work, sacrifice, strategy, effort, attitude. These values are naturally taught through playing and practicing the game of basketball.
Moral values are values that once learned, last a lifetime. Values that the United States were founded on: love, honesty, justice, respect and responsibility. These values must be taught on purpose just like sports skills. These values, like the skills of shooting a correct jump shot, will never leave you if taught properly. The will impact your life long after you basketball career has ended.
Becoming a person of character and values will positively impact your ability to learn and be successful in the game of basketball. Your love of the game, love of your teammates and coaches will have a significant impact on your ability to take in the information, correction and encouragement necessary to be a successful athlete.
We are thrilled that you are putting yourself in a situation to become your best on the basketball court and the bigger arena of life. We look forward to working with you to make a difference in your life for the long haul.
