Open Gym Rules and Expectations

EYBC Open Gyms - Check the EYBC Calendar for Dates, Times and Locations of

EYBC open gyms are designed to provide players an opportunity to practice their skills in a game format with a supervising coach overseeing the game play. Players will need to have a signed parental waiver form on file and will be expected to adhere to all EYBC Open Gym Rules and Expectations:

General Rules and Expectations:

  1. All players are held to the EYBC core value expectations of having a respectful and positive attitude, working hard and giving great effort, playing with enthusiasm and energy.

  2. All EYBC open gyms and clinics are open to players in grades one through eight unless otherwise designated.

  3. Swearing or fighting will result in immediate removal from the gym. Two occurrences of such an incident will result in removal from all EYBC activities for a period of one calendar year from the date of the second incident.

  4. All player must have a signed parent waiver form on file.

  5. All players must have a parent phone number on file with the EYBC.

  6. EYBC coaches always reserve the right to remove a player or a parent for conduct not in accordance with EYBC core values.

  7. The first 15 minutes of each session will start with ball handling and shooting instruction. The next 45 minutes will be game play format. 

Game Rules and Expectations:

  1. Coaches pick teams, always.

  2. Depending on the number of participants, 2 on 2, 3 on 3, 4 on 4 and 5 on 5 formats will be used. For 1st through 3rd graders, 3 on 3 will be used as much as possible.

  3. Boys and girls can play together.

  4. Games are to five by ones and twos. Winning team stays on the court.

  5. Side baskets are lowered for 1st - 3rd graders to 8’ or 9' depending on participants. All other grades will play on 10’ hoops.

  6. Players call the fouls with supervising coaches discretion to call a foul or reverse a call at any time.

    1. A foul on a shot results in one point for the team who is fouled.

    2. A non-shooting foul results in a single free-throw attempt.
